£10K Fine for Concrete Manufacturer After Worker Suffers Catastrophic Injuries

Concrete manufacturer Meadows WR LLP has been prosecuted after a 60-year-old man was seriously injured after falling from a ladder. The electrician was working from his own stepladder on the first floor of a house that he was helping demolish and refurbish. He fell from the ladder and through an opening onto the ground floor below. His spine was broken in three places and he was paralysed from the chest down.  He spent three months in a coma, twelve months in hospital and died three years after the accident due to respiratory failure. The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of the same amount.
